Normally fairy tales talk about witches, ogres, monsters and strange creatures don’t they?
But no, not this time!
It’s a bright sunny, spring morning, fresh and sweet smelling and the air seems to sparkle. In the pretty garden of a charming, small town house, mummy cat Blanche was giving birth to her kittens under the worried but watchful eye of daddy cat Candide. Three marvellous kittens showed the end of their muzzle, as white as the snow, as soft as cotton wool balls and with eyes as blue as the sky.
But ….. wait ….. what’s that moving, there, under the folds of the blanket?
What’s that! could it be a black kitten?
Mummy cat Blanche and daddy cat Candide looked worriedly at each other. Totally black with spiky fur and yellow eyes….. where on earth did it come from? And to top it all, it had a small white spot on its fur, a bit peculiar, it looks as though it’s moving, as though it’s alive.
That’s how Faust’s story begins.
The weeks went by, and whilst the white kittens grew up to become even more beautiful and placid, Faust became more cunning, daring and rebellious. One beautiful day, when he was chasing a lizard, he ran out of the garden and ended up under a car bonnet. Not long afterwards the car started.
Which direction did it go in? Where did it go? No-one knew but when it stopped Faust found himself in a completely different place to where he had grown up. It was a stinking and chaotic port. Everyone was shouting, there were big, heavy boxes full of goods and enormous, strange boxes that were floating on a stretch of dark water, so vast that neither the bottom nor the end could be seen.
Faust, more curious rather than afraid, slipped into the storeroom of an enormous ship, which lifted anchor soon afterwards. The ship plowed all the seas in the world, and had the truth been known, Faust was very happy on it.He had great fun stealing food from the sailors, he grew bigger and became stronger and stronger and totally black except for the annoying little white spot which changed place every day….
One day the ship put into port and Faust decided to stretch his legs. A delicious smell hung in the air, he found himself in a market full of colourful and good things, happy people and magnificent objects. Faust nipped in and out of the strollers, curious about everything surrounding him. He was particularly attracted to a small wicker basket, into which he finally jumped.
He didn’t know it, but that was the moment that his life changed.
It was Zoé’s shopping basket!
Remember, dear children and this is important: that when you find a cat, look after it with love, because he chose you as a friend and never forget that the love of a cat is more precious that gold!
